The Little Acorns

The Little Acorns is our nurturing nursery class for children aged 2½ to 3½ years, located on the first floor of The Acorn Nursery. This light, spacious environment is thoughtfully designed to support children as they begin to explore the world with growing confidence, curiosity, and independence.

At this stage, we focus on helping children become strong, capable, and confident learners. Our experienced team supports each child’s developing sense of self, encouraging them to take initiative, make choices, and express their ideas through rich and purposeful play.

Each child has a key teacher, providing a consistent and trusting relationship that fosters emotional security and supports individual growth. Through this connection, we help children feel known, valued, and ready to engage with the world around them.

Children enjoy access to our garden, where they can run, climb, explore, and connect with nature developing physical skills, resilience, and a love of the outdoors. Our Little Acorns are also introduced to Outdoor Learning, a gentle and engaging precursor to Forest School, which takes place in the outer garden of the Church grounds across the road. These sessions help build confidence, curiosity, and a deeper connection with the natural world.

Every day, children take part in teacher-led activities that are carefully planned around topics inspired by their interests, fostering a love of learning and encouraging children to ask questions, explore ideas, and develop key skills through meaningful experiences.

Music continues to play a special role, as the children sing and move to familiar Acorn songs, deepening their connection to the rhythm of nursery life and to one another. The Acorn Golden Rules are gently reinforced, helping children learn about kindness, cooperation, and being part of a caring community.

We promote healthy eating habits and a sense of sharing by encouraging each child to bring in a piece of fruit or vegetable to contribute to our communal snack, a time for connection, conversation, and learning about food.

The Little Acorns is a place where children grow in confidence, develop independence, and begin to see themselves as capable learners, ready for the next steps in their journey with joy and enthusiasm.
