Sustainability

Our Commitment to Sustainability

At The Acorn Nursery we believe that caring for the environment starts in early childhood. As a proud Eco-School with Distinction, sustainability is woven into everything we do — from the classroom to the garden and beyond.

We want every child in our care to grow up with a love and respect for the natural world. That’s why we actively encourage hands-on learning experiences that promote environmental awareness and responsibility in age-appropriate, meaningful ways.

Learning Through Nature

Our Forest School activities give children the opportunity to connect with nature in a joyful and exploratory way. Whether it’s building dens, spotting wildlife, or learning how trees help our planet, these outdoor sessions nurture curiosity and a deep appreciation for the environment.

Caring for Our Environment

Children regularly take part in:

  • Litter picking around our local area and school grounds
  • Composting leftover fruit and veg from snack time
  • Recycling materials and sorting waste to reduce landfill
These activities teach children the importance of looking after our world and show them that small actions make a big difference.

A Whole-School Approach

Sustainability isn’t just a lesson—it’s part of our culture. We model eco-friendly practices across our nursery, including:

  • Using natural, recyclable, and upcycled materials where possible
  • Reducing single-use plastics
  • Growing our own herbs and vegetables in our garden
We also involve children in eco-projects and campaigns, giving them a sense of ownership and pride in protecting the planet.
